Starting in 1989, Strands was one of the first totally ammonia free salons in Vancouver.
Strands was green before green was fashionable. We keep in mind the health of our planet and its inhabitants with all the products we use and sell.
Urs and Erika are excellent! I have gone to Strands for years and have loved the services they provide. I have curly hair and have had it styled both long and short as well as having it coloured. I first came to Strands in late 1986, at the end of Expo. Noreen was recommended to me because I had decided I wanted “Tina Turner hair”. Never mind that my straight hair was never going to do that (plus Turner wore wigs, who knew). Anyway, Noreen did a pretty good job and told me that with enough gel I could maybe-almost have the hair I wanted. Some time later I came for a hair cut and a young man whose name I don’t remember cut my hair. He didn’t do a very good job and I was heading out of town as I was teaching a workshop at the Sechelt Writer’s Conference. Being a writer I found it easier to just write a letter expressing my displeasure at my haircut, then went out of town. Urs must have left fifteen messages on my answering machine, all of which I received when I got back. Long story short, he said he was sorry, and that he would fix the problem, and he did. The young man who cut my hair was never seen or heard from again. The rest, as they say, is history. And here we are. Older, not especially wiser and still with pretty nice hair thanks to Urs and Erika.
