A happy, healthy scalp is the secret to strong, glossy hair, explains Urs. When your scalp isnât in great shape, your hair can be dull, dry, itchy and even start to shed.
The good news? A little extra TLC (and a few expert tips đ) can get your scalp back on track.
Why your scalp deserves some love
Your scalp, just like your skin, shows signs of imbalance when itâs not happy. If youâre dealing with any of these, it might be time to switch up your routine, says Urs.
Flaky or dry scalp. White flakes on your shoulders? It could be dryness or product buildup.
Greasy roots. Hair looking oily just hours after washing? Your scalp may be overproducing oil. Are you under stress? Do you suffer from physical exertion? Are you going through puberty or menopause? Or do you perform athletic sports? If so, you are undoubtedly familiar with oily looking hair after just a few hours after washing. Your problem may be Damp or sweaty scalp and not oil.
Itchy or irritated skin. Redness, itching or sensitivity can signal an imbalance.
Hair thinning or extra shedding. A healthy scalp is key for hair growth and strength.
Flat, lifeless hair. If your roots feel weighed down, buildup could be the culprit.
The answer? A little extra scalp care in your routine can make all the difference, says Urs
What happens when you take care of your scalp?
A well-maintained scalp creates the perfect environment for hair to thrive,â says Urs âThink of it as skincare⊠but for your scalp and hair.â
A good routine can:
Improve circulation, encouraging stronger, healthier hair growth.
Balance oil production, preventing dryness or greasiness.
Reduce product buildup, keeping hair fresher for longer.
Keep hydration levels balanced for soft, nourished hair.
Help prevent scalp irritation and flakiness.
Easy ways to love your scalp
Just a few tweaks can transform the way your scalp (and hair) looks and feels:
[1] Try a scalp scrub
Product buildup, excess oil and pollution clog hair follicles and weigh your roots down. A gentle scalp scrub, once a week helps clear away debris and keeps your scalp fresh.
[2] Hydration is key
Just like your skin, your scalp needs moisture to stay balanced. If it feels tight or itchy, itâs probably dehydrated.
A lightweight scalp serum, can restore moisture, without making roots greasy.
Avoid shampooing too often as this can strip away natural oils and make dryness worse.
[3] Massage your way to healthier hair
A quick scalp massage boosts circulation, relieves tension and promotes hair growth. Want to learn the best technique? Ask us for a demo next time youâre in.
[4] Rethink cleansing
Your everyday hair products play a big role in scalp health. If your scalp feels irritated or out of balance, it could be your shampoo or conditioner. Ask your stylist for a recommendation.
And go easy on dry shampoo as overuse can clog follicles and cause buildup. âUse it sparingly,â says Urs. âItâs great for in-between washes but shouldnât replace a good cleanse.â
[5] Donât forget sun protection
Yes, your scalp can get sunburnt. Protect it with SPF spray which is light and non-greasy. Pay extra attention to your parting and any thinning areas. In strong sun a hat is your best friend For your hair Urs recommends sun protection with KPF ( Keratin Protection Factor)
