When Strands entered the aromatherapy realm in the mid-1990’s, few people in North America even new the term. Aromatherapy at the time meant healing with the use of plant derived essential oils. Today the word stands for everything with a nice, pleasant smell.

We buy oils from plants grown naturally and without pesticides whenever possible.True essential oils are pure and, as the name suggests, the “essence” of a flower or plant. Which means by definition they’re going to be expensive; since they are labor intensive to make. But used appropriately, they go a long way. |

AROMATHERAPY A MISUSED WORD
Aromatherapy to the purist practitioner means essential oils and aromatic compounds derived from flowers and plants. Practitioners including massage therapists, chiropractors, nurses and doctors use aromatherapy for the therapeutic, psychological and physiological properties in the essential oils. There are about 150 essential oils used for their antiseptic properties, there benefit in mood enhancement, as an anti-inflammatory, for pain relief, care for the skin, to alleviate tension and fatigue. When inhaled, they work on the brain and nervous system through the stimulation of the olfactory nerves. Preliminary scientific evidence is growing in all these areas. Aromatherapy is a generic term used by many manufactures for products that smell nice. However synthetically made oils do not work as a benefit in the field of health and well-being. For those applications essential oils should be made from natural, pure materials and extracted to the highest standards. And many of them smell great as well; just think of rose, lavender, lemon, peppermint and yuzu
